Working in this job abroad: visa notes
United Kingdom
Since 22 July 2025, new Skilled Worker applicants generally need a job classed as ‘higher skilled’ (RQF level 6+). Jobs classed as ‘medium skilled’ are only eligible if they appear on the Immigration Salary List or Temporary Shortage List, so check the current eligible occupations list for this job’s occupation code. Some nationalities can use the Youth Mobility Scheme instead. This includes most hospitality, retail, cleaning, security and care roles. New overseas recruitment of care workers and senior care workers closed on 22 July 2025, with limited transitional arrangements for people already in the UK.

United States
Options are limited: the H-2B covers temporary or seasonal non-agricultural work (capped annually), some J-1 programs cover hospitality training, and the EB-3 ‘other workers’ category allows employer-sponsored permanent residence with long waits.

Canada
Employers can hire through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (LMIA, with low-wage stream restrictions in some areas). Young people from partner countries may use International Experience Canada (working holiday). Some provincial nominee programs include in-demand service roles.

Australia
Many people do these jobs on Working Holiday Maker visas (subclass 417/462) for eligible nationalities, or as students within work-hour limits. Employer sponsorship is possible only if the occupation is on the relevant list and salary thresholds are met.

United Arab Emirates
These roles are commonly filled through employer-sponsored work permits and residence visas via MOHRE; the employer bears the visa costs. Check your contract carefully and ensure the employer is properly licensed.

European Union
Non-EU nationals need a national work permit; some countries have seasonal-worker schemes and shortage lists that include hospitality or care. Working holiday agreements exist between several EU countries and partner nations.
